My first good vacuum was a $500 Dyson - and it lasted 12 years. Probably would have lasted longer, but I used it to vacuum up drywall dust on a couple work sites, and it was never the same again. I won't be making that same mistake with my Bissell. Out of the box - easy enough to put together, and parts all seem pretty sturdy. Hose doesn't seem as long as the Dyson, but that could be that I had stretched out the Dyson's hose (actually, I went through 3 hoses on the Dyson in 12 years) Since I've only had it a week - my first review is going to be awesome - because it is still in brand new condition. I'll update in 6 months to see if I'm still in love with it - but for now - Jersey right now is covered in pollen - even when you drive - it's like going through a green fog, all the time. And that "junk" comes in through the screens and coats the tables, chairs, everything. I did a full house vacuum with the Bissell when I first got it - and even though I had just vacuumed the day before - I still had to dump the dust cup quite a few times - so amazing job. Let's just hope it continues to perform this well. It is a bit heavy, but so was the Dyson. I don't mind heavy, but if you're extremely small framed and not so strong - you may want to consider the weight of this item.
